This Painting – Michael Rich

This painting, by SCAD Alum Michael Rich, that I found on the SCAD Atlanta Scholarship Gala page (where I’ll have 5 works for purchase that will benefit the SCAD Scholarship funds) – Is my favorite untitled landscape ever, mainly because it’s obviously some kind of delicious sandwich.

JPG Magazine (Still Alive)

Though we haven’t heard much lately, it seems that for the time being JPG Magazine is still alive. It’s not clear exactly what the future of the print side of things is – but the site is still up. Personally, I think they should at least push to keep the site and community around, and release PDF/Interactive issues with a skeleton crew. I bet there would be renewed interest in a print magazine over time, but there’s no reason to totally disband the community. I’m sure they’re musing over all of this already, of course.

There was a website hiccup before they pulled out of the dangerzone, though, and all the votes on images for the latest themes were lost. You may not have noticed this – but if you’ve got stuff on there, send me a link (as always!) so I can re-vote. Here are mine:

You are all reading Big Fat Whale, right? Please tell me you are all reading Big Fat Whale.

I don’t know how many times I need to keep posting this stuff. I just need to make sure that you are all reading Big Fat Whale.

SPESE Award Winners – Ryan Steele, Kyle Ford, Krista Coppedge

I already mentioned that Nate Abramiwski and I were the SCAD SPE Portfolio scholarship winners, but I just learned the SPESE National Conference Scholarship winners from an email from Rebecca Nolan. Check em out!

Ryan Steele, Adjunct Professor University of North Carolina, Asheville, NC

Boardroom, 2006, 18×18″ Inkjet Print

Kyle Ford, MFA Candidate, SCAD, Savannah, GA

Expedition Everest, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, 2008 / 40” x 60” / Archival Inkjet

Krista Coppedge, undergraduate student, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL

Sister Sink, 8×10″ silver gelatin print, 2008

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a website for anyone but Kyle, or I’d link them. By the way Kyle, congrats on finally climbing to the top of the google results – I know the other guy has been up there forever.

So I called Kyle (also a scad student), and him and Nate and I are probably going to go in on a room in Dallas. I’m sure I’ll be meeting the others at SPE!
