Free WordPress Portfolio Themes for Artists and Photographers

As some of you know I’ve been messing around with wordpress as a platform for portfolios for a little while. It’s a really versitile platform, the problem is making something that’s a good starting point for many people versus a really recognizable “designed” theme. For example, this site I worked up in a night for Jennifer Robins, one of my students, is obviously not going to work for everyone’s portfolio, even though she likes it a lot.

I’ve had too much on my plate to finish up and release my barebones theme yet (It’s a side-scrolling portfolio layout) but Dalton Rooney has just put one up that is also quite nice.

It’s a minimalistic slideshow/nextlast design. You can check it out and download it here.

I highly recommend using wordpress to house your work. It’s super customizable and easy to use on a daily basis. Plus, it’s hosted on your own server so you don’t have to worry about going to others (well, except your host and a knowledge base of other developers) with your problems.

WordPress themes are addicting to me. Sometimes I’ll just spend hours looking at a site like themeforest.net getting ideas and playing around.

Dalton’s theme looks pretty nice. Can’t really ask for much more in a portfolio site.

best portfolios are fairly minimal in design, even if the work itself is sprawling and overwhelming.
