Andy Bloxham (Website and Blog), MFA Student at Louisiana Tech University, showed a huge pile of fresh digitally composited prints. These images are inspired by scenes that race through his mind as he sleeps.
While my personal bias keeps me from getting wholy into the pretty commercial aesthetic of most of the images, I do appreciate their craft and humor. The composing was definitely some of the best I saw on Thursday, though the lighting seemed alternatively lacking and overblown. Again, it’s possible this kind of work is just not my thing – so take any aesthetic comments with that in mind.
In this series in particular, I enjoy seeing how often photography figures into his dreams and nightmares – I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for photography about photography. Throughout the images his backround in theatre definitely shows through and it is hard to look through them without cracking a smile.
On a side note, you may be familiar with some of Andy’s Polaroids, which have made their rounds a bit on the web.
